If only all days could be like this...

The other day I ventured over to the LA County Museum of Art to see the Tim Burton exhibit, however because of how popular it is they could only let so many people in at a time, and we would've had to wait a couple hours to be able to enter, so we decided to just enjoy the installations outside, the architecture of the buildings, the sculpture garden and the Tar Pits.  And, afterwards jaunted over to Bacaro LA Wine Bar for a delicious dinner, which even thinking about just makes me salivate.  All in all it was just such a wonderful day and it made remember, really how much art feeds your soul, and even just walking around and exploring the outside of LACMA was such a fantastic time. It makes me sad to think how out of touch with art and the art world I have become and I vowed to myself to become more diligent about my participation in it. The arts are important.

hours of happiness

After receiving a recommendation from Nancy of Dipped Nails I decided to venture over to 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro for happy hour today.  I haven't been over to downtown Torrance in quite some time and I have to admit there doesn't seem like there is a whole lot to do there but I'm sure 1321 will draw me back again, as well as an Antique Street Fair every 4th Sunday.  Well getting back to the happy hour though, I was quite unaware of the large portions of the appetizers and I'm afraid I went a little over board.  We tried the Fire Fries(delicious) with the habanero sauce on the side (super spicy, by the by), the Pale Ale Mac and Cheese (kind of strange after taste), and the Tinga de Pollo (amazing).  For all this food, three cocktails and a soft drink out bill was only $28.44!  And, aside from the great prices and delicious food the restaurant/bar is a throwback to a classic 1940's American taproom with the waiters, bartenders and food-runners wearing vests, suspenders and page boy hats, and I do love a good throwback look.

GEL-ous much?

So today I decided to treat myself to a Gel Manicure at my favorite nail salon Dipped Nails.  For a Gel Manicure it is $35, and yes I know of places where you can get it for $20, but Dipped is worth the extra $15.  Why you ask?  Well because it is a beautiful salon and is very clean with friendly staff that are very knowledgeable about all the hot trends in nail treatments and the bottom line is that they just do such a great job.  We have all been to those dingy little salons where you don't feel very welcomed and you wonder when the last time they disinfected their instruments was, but at Dipped Nails you don't have to worry about any of that.  I'm completely gushing because I just love it there that much.  By the way, Nancy, the salon owner, was my manicurist and she is such a lovely person, I hope to become one of her regulars.

p.s.Oh and they have a "client appreciation stamp card! After your 10th stamp you get a complimentary manicure!

p.p.s. if you don't know what a Gel Manicure is and are curious Nancy wrote an article about it called are you gel-in? (just be sure to scroll down the page)

Hello Summer

Even though I prefer cooler temperatures and cloudy and/or rainy days, I am known on occasion to enjoy a wonderfully warm, sunny day given that I am wearing coats of sun block, sunglasses and preferably a fabulous hat.  On this particular occasion it is done, done and done.  I was able to spend such a lovely week-end with some of my most favorite people {celebrating a be-lated birthday} and enjoyed the weather in their beautiful garden. p.s Thanks to Patty Carlson for the photo.

Nothing says happy birthday like delicious kebabs cooked over an open flame.  And, how pretty are they? I love all the vibrant colors.
I also love gorgeous night photos. The street lamps look like little fires in the pitch black landscape.  What a lovely week-end.

"Just look at this"

I am so happy to blog that yesterday I was able to get together with some of my oldest and best-est friends in my old stomping grounds of Huntington Beach.  It is crazy how a trip to Golden Spoon for frozen yogurt and wearing cha cha shorts, driving on Beach Blvd with Jay-Z blaring can bring you back to the good ol' days.  The festivities also included a pizza of epic proportions from St. George Pizza, which might I say was soooooo ridiculously delicious, I would even venture to say it was as delicious as it was large, as well as some mighty fine "bright punch" aka sangria.  And, the night would not be complete without funny videos courtesy of YouTube such as Look at this car!, Business Time from Flight of the Conchords and of course everybody's favorite Honey Badger.  Nothing makes me happier than good times with good friends.
