rolled together with a burning paper heart

I love visitng my mom because she sort of lives out in the middle of nowhere.  It is nice to have that feeling of being "away".  This isn't where I grew up but it still feels very comfortable.  Just up the road from her is a small farm with a lovely bunch of cows.  I don't know why cows got me so excited but I had to go over and introduce myself and they were so friendly, I even had the childlike fancy of taking one home as a pet.  Unfortunately I don't think my boyfriend or my dog would be very happy about the new addition so I bid my farewell and told them I'd see them again soon.

don't forget to enter!

Don't forget to enter my Thanks-GIVEAWAY to win this super cute BeBop dress!  Really who doesn't want a free dress? And, entering is so easy, just go to the original post to learn how.  This giveaway is open to everyone, everywhere (international readers welcome!).

the best things come from nothing

I am moderately obsessed with the Perry Mason book series by Erle Stanley Gardner, and also the television show by the same name, hence the name of my blog...Della Street being Perry's confidential secretary.  Unfortunately the books are out of print but I find them at my local library and the television show is off the air, after being shown by the local cable access channel for years and years, it has been replaced by Cheers, how sad, but fortunately the discs can be netflixed!  Anyways, my point being I am deeply engrossed in The Case of the Demure Defendant, and with the weather warming up it is so lovely to be able to sit outside and read.  I can not help but share a little blurb that I find so entertaining.  Perry Mason, a criminal defense attorney is being accused of planting evidence and his private detective (Paul Drake) is coming to him with the news..."Drake, his voice showing concern, said, 'Perry, you didn't, did you?' ' Didn't what?'  'Didn't plant that bottle?' 'Hells bells,' Mason said, 'do I look like a damn fool Paul?'"...Sorry I couldn't resist.
And, in the aftermath of a holiday in which there is an expectation to consume large quantities of food, I find the shift dress to be a wise choice with an nice a comfy sweater to hide my extra curvy curves, as of late.

the wind talks back

I am so happy to have an occasion to wear my new Britt Ryan tunic, recently picked up at her Newbury St. boutique on my latest trip to Boston. I wandered into the boutique partly for refuge from the chilly weather, partly because I was lured in by the pink walls and the fabulously feminine window display.  Either way it was love at first sight.  I wish I could have bought one of everything, unfortunately my wallet was not so open to the idea.  And, while I'm not usually one for separates I was drawn to this top because of the fun little bow details and it's overall versatility.

I still remember

I recently received this dress courtesy of BeBop and I instantly fell in love with it.  I naturally tend toward cool tones, and especially with the weather cooling they just feel so appropriate.  I love the feminine qualities of this dress, the rosebud pattern and the ruffles which make a nice pairing with ballet flats but could just as easily be paired with a pair of androgynous boots for a play on contrasts.  Either way, I'm in love.
